Are there many things more satisfying than working with lovely fresh ingredients in a bright, cheerful kitchen? This gallery showcases one of our recent renovations in Snohomish, Washington, that involved updating a dated kitchen and powder room, and adding a stunning new wet bar in the family room.

This gorgeous kitchen highlights a variety of great ideas for creating your own bright culinary oasis. Notice the light wall color, to start. A tough stance on clutter helps, too. White- or light-painted cabinets offer an added boost. And a healthy burst of natural light doesn’t hurt, either.

To add a bit of WOW to the space, the homeowner selected gorgeous granite countertops that while generally light in color, feature a lot of movement and color. And she also chose a lovely tile backsplash that glows in well-placed under-cabinet task lighting.

To help put the polish into this beautiful space, we refinished the tired oak floor so it now allows the lovely cabinets and stainless steel appliances above it to pop.

Yup—we’re very proud of this one!

But first… Here are a few images of the kitchen before we got started.

Feast your eyes on these!

Here, we’re looking from the family room through the new, bright kitchen. The general layout of the original kitchen didn’t require much change since it worked well for the active family of five. There is ample cooking and prep space, lots of room for multiple cooks (and kids) to move through the space, and the appliance placement works well.

This is the refrigerator wall—can you find the refrigerator? Yup, it’s at the far end past the microwave. This beautiful wall of Dura Supreme maple cabinetry is finished in a lovely antiqued cream color that pops with the warm taupe walls and the beautiful bronze cabinet and drawer pulls. Matching pulls are on the refrigerator doors and the freezer drawers below them.

The new microwave and shallow drawers have been placed within easy reach of the family’s youngest members. And tons of smart storage completes the built-in look.

And do you see those gorgeous floors? It’s amazing how a well-loved and tired oak floor can truly come back to life with a good sanding, well-chosen stain, and several layers of protective polyurethane.

This view shows off the stunning granite slab the homeowners chose for their large working island and countertops.

They also chose a simple tumbled stone backsplash that we set on the diagonal. Small bronze embellishments add interest and look great with the cabinet hardware and the countertops.

Here we’re looking over the beautiful new Wolf gas cooktop in the island toward the newly trimmed-out windows on the north side of the eat-in kitchen. We added three small shelves between the windows for family nick-knacks. The family’s heirloom kitchen table fits nicely in this kitchen nook.

Here’s one more look at the island which features tons of storage on every side, and plenty of room for the kids to enjoy their morning breakfast. This also provides a better look at the new dishwasher to the right of the beautiful new sink, and lovely wide drawers for large bowls, pots, and pans.

You might also notice the strip of power plugs we installed just under the upper cabinets on the right-hand wall. This offers the cook plenty of options for power while keeping the backsplash clean and beautiful.

Lots of recessed lighting brightens every work surface and walkway in this bright kitchen.

Now we’re looking east from the kitchen into the family room and the new wet bar.

This is the brand new wet bar. The client chose beautiful, rich rustic cherry cabinets with a dark stain, and beautiful dark granite for the countertops. They hung a large mirror on the wall behind the bar to reflect their amazing back yard.

The client is planning to have new stained glass inserts installed in the tall lighted upper cabinets beside the sink, and she’s shopping now for the perfect picture to hang between them.

We installed a new slate floor in this area and finished it with a sealing enhancer to bring out the color. It looks amazing!

And here’s a quick peek at the small powder room with its beautiful new vanity, sink, mirror, and yummy new paint color.
